Urban Exploration, Abandoned Building Syndrome??
Urban Exploration: the investigation of manmade structures
not designed for public consumption, from mechanical rooms to stormwater
drains to rooftops
Bit vague term, it often but not always involves going places you're
not supposed to go, but also seeing things normal people never see.
Abandoned Building Syndrome: the irresistible urge to
explore abandoned buildings
A term some of my housemates thought up to describe my doings, which
I think is quite fitting. :-)
Why:
Something like: an inborn urge to explore + excessive curiosity +
interested in local history + interested in industrial archaeology + thrill
of being somewhere you're not supposed to be + interest in photography
+ the quiet, peaceful and historic atmosphere of abandoned buildings +
...
Dangerous: Yes, so use common sense.
Don't drink colourful chemicals, don't eat pigeon dung, don't breath
asbestos, don't fall in deep pits or through rotten floors.
My principles of
exploration of buildings: I never damage anything, I don't tag (in my
opinion a form of damaging) and I never take anything still having some
value.
Take nothing but pictures,
leave nothing but footsteps!
(and I don't like leaving those behind either)
