Between the bridge over the Große
Aa and the bridge over the Moosbach the track has had a facelift. The metal sleepers have been replaced by concrete, 'mile'stones have
been replaced by metal signs and the track is by far not as overgrown.
In 1980 there were plans to conduct trial runs with high-speed trains between Rheine and Freren. The track is
almost dead-straight and there was only little other traffic left. In the end nothing came of it but they did
rebuild the track here.
